Datasnipper's story. A conversation with

Nikolaj Hutten
Head of Legal, DataSnipper
Background
We spoke with Nikolaj Hutten, Head of Legal at DataSnipper about how the company's legal function is scaling and how Wordsmith helps the team stay responsive and aligned with the pace of the business.
What role do you think AI tools should play for modern in house legal teams?
Nikolaj explains: "AI is naturally suited for legal work. I use it as a first step when reviewing or drafting contracts. It spots key clauses, risks, and commercial terms instantly, so I know exactly where to focus. It’s the same for analyzing new legislation or handling standard internal questions. It doesn’t replace legal judgment—it lets you spend your judgment where it matters.”
What made you choose Wordsmith?
Before adopting Wordsmith, DataSnipper ran a full pilot to understand whether the platform could genuinely improve how Legal supported the business. The team quickly saw the appeal: Wordsmith was easy to learn, offered deep functionality, and fit naturally into their existing workflows.
A key deciding factor was how well Wordsmith enabled self-serve across the organization. The Slack integration stood out in particular, giving Legal a scalable way to handle incoming questions without slowing down the business. This led to the creation of a dedicated 'Ask-Legal' Slack channel, which has since become the first place teams go for support—streamlining communication and reducing bottlenecks.
Beyond workflow improvements, Wordsmith also became a reliable first layer of analysis for the legal team. Using it at the start of contract reviews helps surface key clauses, risks, and commercial points instantly. As the team put it, the tool doesn’t replace legal judgment, but it raises the baseline and frees time for more substantive work.

What's next
Since adopting Wordsmith, DataSnipper’s legal team has increased efficiency dramatically and now supports global time zones far more effectively.
Looking ahead, the company expects Wordsmith to continue scaling with them.
“It’s shown us how a modern legal team can stay lean and focus on strategic work, without compromising support for the business," Nikolaj explains. Together, these changes show how the right in-house legal solution can scale a team's impact as the business grows.
