What is Usage & Value?

Usage & Value shows what legal work is being done in Wordsmith and what that work represents in estimated time, capacity and economic value. It helps Legal move beyond usage metrics to understand what their AI investment is actually delivering.

Can we use our own rates and assumptions?

Yes. You can set your own in-house and outside counsel rates, seniority assumptions, currency and productive hours. You can also adjust how different types of work contribute to in-house and outside counsel value.

What does outside counsel value mean?

It shows what relevant work handled in Wordsmith would represent at your chosen outside counsel rates. You can adjust this by work type, so work that you would never realistically have sent to a law firm does not need to count towards external value.

Can we see how the estimates were calculated?

Yes. The methodology separates the estimated time from the economic assumptions. You can see and control the rates and assumptions used to calculate value, so the number is easier to explain and defend internally.

Why does this matter beyond usage reporting?
