How legal sits at the centre of a Paris-born business working across around 20 countries.

Contentsquare's legal team builds the tools that keep a 1,300-person business moving, with lawyers keeping the judgement.

### By the numbers

- **5–6 hours** saved on a single MSA review
- **1 hour to 10 minutes **to draft certain addendums
- **1,300 people** across around **20 countries**

Contentsquare is an experience intelligence analytics platform and one of the standout tech companies to come out of Paris. Today, its 1,300 employees operate across around 20 countries, generating a constant flow of commercial agreements, privacy questions and legal requests that its in-house team needs to keep pace with.

Leading that team is Arnaud Gouachon, a full stack Chief Legal Officer who has built and led legal functions across public companies and VC-backed hypergrowth businesses. Before joining Contentsquare in 2019, he built PeopleDoc's legal function from scratch and served as VP Legal at Ultimate Software. Today, he oversees both Legal and People at Contentsquare.

Alongside him is Félix Le Goffe, a modern-day legal engineer who has spent eight years at Contentsquare, rising to Associate General Counsel & Legal Director. Using Wordsmith, he's turning the team's legal expertise into tools that colleagues across the business can use themselves, from commercial contract reviews to everyday legal questions. The ambition is to put legal knowledge directly into the hands of the business, while freeing lawyers to focus on the decisions that require their judgement.

### Legal in step with the business

Arnaud's approach to legal has been consistent across his career. Contentsquare describes him as a problem-solving partner to the business, someone who treats legal and compliance work as a way to create business opportunities and accelerate revenue. He is a founding member of Tech GC, a peer community of general counsel.

At Contentsquare he oversees both the legal and the people functions, so he sees how the business works from both sides. That vantage point shapes how he grows the team.

> “As we mature as an organisation, we need more tools, we need more structure, but this is always done in sync with the business.”

**Arnaud Gouachon**
Chief Legal Officer and Chief People Officer, Contentsquare

Félix is helping bring that vision to life, building the tools to make it possible.

### Félix's playbook

Six lessons on bringing legal expertise into the wider business.

#### 1. Start with a reliable source of truth

For Félix, everything the team builds depends on the quality of the information behind it, so getting that right comes first. “The only limit is your imagination and how clean your data is. If you have those two things, you can go crazy,” he says. By building on reliable internal knowledge, the team can create more tools that help colleagues navigate legal questions without every request requiring a lawyer to start from scratch.

#### 2. Take it one step at a time

Félix's advice to other legal teams is to build slowly. “Don't aim for the moon straight away, otherwise you might get discouraged,” he says. “Learn each tiny piece one by one. They will all click together later on, and you'll be able to expand on it.”

#### 3. Turn legal expertise into something the whole business can use

Félix treats every piece of legal work as an opportunity to build something reusable. “Now, as soon as I have a task, I do it with Wordsmith's help, and straight after I build the agent that automates it,” he says. Rather than repeatedly handling the same requests, he's building tools that can extend the legal team's capabilities across Contentsquare.

#### 4. Build trust before scaling legal capability

On one MSA, Félix said Wordsmith's first pass saved “at least five or six hours”: clauses that did not apply were stripped out straight away, leaving him to review what remained paragraph by paragraph. He starts with exhaustive reviews, then gradually reduces oversight as the outputs earn his trust. “How much can we trust it, and where do we set the bar?” remains the guiding question.

#### 5. Give the business access without giving up legal oversight

Contentsquare's legal team built a Slack bot on Wordsmith to answer colleagues' questions about AI, privacy, processes and signing authority. It draws on the team's own legal knowledge alongside security and privacy guidance. Crucially, a lawyer approves answers before they're shared, with plans to involve security and privacy colleagues as co-approvers. The result is a way to make legal knowledge more accessible without sacrificing control.

#### 6. Build legal tools around how people actually work

Rather than expecting colleagues to adopt entirely new processes, Félix is bringing legal support into the tools they already use. He has set up a dedicated Slack channel where he encourages colleagues to share comments on the agents he builds.

### What the business gets

****

**Colleagues get answers where they already work.** Questions on AI and privacy, signatures or who can sign what are answered in Slack from legal's own guidance and checked by a lawyer, without anyone having to email legal or track down the right person.

**Deals go out cleaner.** Order forms for upsells and renewals are checked against the existing MSA and legal's rules before they reach the customer, so gaps such as a missing service schedule are caught and fixed in the document itself.

**Lawyers work on higher value matters.** Wordsmith handles the first pass of complex contracts, saving hours on a single MSA review and freeing the team to focus on the decisions that require their expertise.

That time goes back into the work that moves Contentsquare forward.

> “When we automate something on the commercial side, we gain time that we'll be able to use on the product side.”

**Félix Le Goffe**
Associate General Counsel & Legal Director, Contentsquare

For Arnaud, that freed capacity has a clear purpose. “What AI definitely does for us is free up capacity internally,” he says. “This human connection to the business, this is where we want to focus.”

### A legal team that reaches further

At Contentsquare, legal is becoming a capability the entire business can draw on.

The tools Félix builds help colleagues move faster, while giving lawyers more time to work alongside the business on the decisions that matter.

For Arnaud, that freed capacity has a clear purpose. It means his team can spend more time building relationships, understanding the business and helping shape its direction. It's a compelling picture of what an in-house legal team can become: one that doesn't just respond to the needs of the business, but helps the entire organisation move forward.
